Converted Organics produces valuable all-natural, organic soil amendment or fertilizer products through food waste recycling. More than 230 million tons of solid waste is produced in the United States each year. Recycling succeeds in preventing about 30 percent of these wastes from being dumped in a landfill or incinerated. At the heart of the Converted Organics process is a technology originally developed and used in Europe that has been refined and is currently used in Canada. The technical name for the technology is Enhanced Autogenous Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (EATAD). Like back yard composting, the EATAD process utilizes oxygen to avoid the buildup of strong odors that would occur under anaerobic conditions. EATAD takes this one step further by introducing additional oxygen, as well as heat, into a closed, carefully monitored tank, as a way to greatly accelerate the digestion process. What would take months to compost, can be quickly converted to a useful all natural fertilizer product in a matter of hours.
