Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL: Summary, Messages, Articles) announced three new semiconductor drivers this week, smaller and more efficient than their predecessors. The ISL6622, ISL6622A and ISL6622B are all geared toward use in Intel VR11.1 CPU systems and optimized for server, desktop computer and gaming console motherboard applications.

Driver specifications for the new addition to the Power Management series include that they are 12-volt and 5-volt synchronous rectified buck MOSFET drivers (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor). They deliver increased efficiency - and CPU lighting - by providing 3A sinking capacity and featuring rapid rise/fall times that support up to 1 MHz frequency switching.

The ISL6622/A/ B trio incorporates Intersil’s gate voltage optimization technology that switches off when the inductor current reaches zero, as well as provides over-voltage protection.

They are priced at $1 each in 1,000-unit quantities for 8-lead SOIC packages, and at $1.07 each in 1,000-unit quantities in 10-lead DFN packages. In the 8-lead SOIC package, the ISL6622 runs at a fixed typical 5.75 volts in PSI mode. In the 10-Lead DFN ISL6222A, the driver can be run on power between 5 and 12 volts with typical drive voltage of 5.75V, 6.75V, and 7.75V in PSI mode.
